Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a site that hosts videos and commentaries on the representation of gender roles in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are depicted in popular media. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and for other groups who have been left out. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very early age. In 2009, while still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman who wanted to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games was targeted in an online campaign. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in pop culture today.
